SOOMAALIYA ― SHABAAB
— Officially: Imaarada Islaamiga ee Soomaaliya.
— English: Shabaab Somalia.
— Status: Not democratic.
— Structure: Theocratic militant state.
— Governing party: Xarakada Mujaahidiinta Alshabaab.
— Head of government: Axmed Cumar, amiir.
— Assessment: Radical religious movement that splintered from the real government of southern Soomaaliya, the Midowga Maxkamadaha Islaamiga, after the latter was defeated by the army of ኢትዮጵያ « Ɔitəjopija » in 2006. By 2009 it had driven ኢትዮጵያ « Ɔitəjopija » out and become the primary government of southern Soomaaliya itself. It remained so for several years, but troops of the recognized administration (the Dowladda Federaalka Kumeelgaarka), the African Union, ኢትዮጵያ « Ɔitəjopija », and allied Soomaali militias gradually changed the balance of power, particularly starting in 2011, when it lost Muqdisho. It now controls primarily two enclaves, on the middle Jubba river and the central coast. Leader Axmed Cabdi Godane (Mukhtaar Cabdi Raxmaan Abu Zubeyr) was killed in 2014.
— FH: 7-7, not free (for Soomaaliya as a whole).
