الاردن « ƆAL-ƆURDUN: »
— Officially: المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية « ɔal-Mamlakaḧ ɔal-Ɔurdun:īaḧ ɔal-Hāšimīaḧ ».
— English: Jordan.
— Seat of government: عمان « Cam:ān »
— Status: Not democratic.
— Structure: Hereditary monarchy with some elected power. The nominal legislature consists of an elected chamber (chosen in geographical constituencies, modified by party-list proportional representation) and an appointed chamber.
— Head of government: عبدالله الثاني ابن الحسين « Cabdɔullah ɔal-Þānī ɔibn ɔal-Husajn », ملك « malik » (since 1999); assisted by هاني الملقي « Hānī ɔal-Mulqī », prime minister (since 2016).
— Assessment: Some liberal elements, relative to the region, but not yet democratic. On the best terms of any عربى « Carabī » state with ישראל « Jiśraɔel ». A semi-elected parliament has extremely limited powers, and is heavily weighted in favor of conservative rural elements, over urban residents and particularly the half of the population of فلسطينى « Filastīnī » origin. عبدالله « Cabdɔullah » was designated crown prince by his father, حسين بن طلال « Husajn bin Talāl » (1952-99), after promising to designate a half-brother as his own successor, which he has since reneged on.
— FH: 6-5, partly free (not democratic). Econ: 3.76 (121), authoritarian.
