THE STEWARDSHIP PROJECT

The Stewardship Project promotes a very specific vision for the world, a vision of a world that is rational, responsible, and cosmopolitan, where the individual is an autonomous element of the whole of the universe, not a subject of some lesser power, not an adherent of some lesser division. In brief, this would be a world without nation or religion; where a unified stewardship would be the primary social institution, not the hundreds of states, mostly dominions, that exist today; where each individual was granted the greatest possible freedom but also exercised the greatest possible responsibility. Above all, the Project works for the transcendence by individuals of the temporal mentality and the uncritical belief that supports it. But we are far from a world of transcendent minds, or even from a unified world of responsible individuals. The Project, recognizing this, promotes interim solutions of various degrees, some simple and easily achievable, some ambitious and possible only in the long term.

In all cases, the Project is devoted to the advocacy obligation, and believes that all stewards must, among their other services, speak candidly on behalf of the welfare of the whole. This, not a belief in the infallibility of any steward, is the motivation for the detailed presentation of theory, policy, and commentary that follows.
